Socket welded valves

2010-11-03

I am having a requirement for two nos of 1" Class 150- C.S. gate valves. Being socket welded valves, i had specified them as class 800. However I am having two different pipe wall thickness for 1" pipe - one as Sch 160 and other as Sch XS. I wanna know that whether these two valves would be having different wall thickness and different valve tags.Whether i also need to specify the class rating as per ASME B 16.11 (i.e. class 6000 for socket end connections for pipe with Sch 160 and class 3000 for socket end connections for pipe with Sch XS). Outside diameter of the pipe does not change regardless of schedule. So any valve with socketweld ends accepts any schedule pipe of the same nominal size. You start out specifying a class 150 valve. Then you mention SCH160 pipe and SCH XS pipe. In 1" size, SCH40 will handle WAY more pressure than Class 150. By the end of your messsage you are mentioning class 6000. I get the feeling you are WAAAY overspecifying the valve. specify the valve class based on the design pressure requirement of the system. The Sch160 pipe may have been specified to provide corrosion allowance, which does not necessarily mean that you would need Class 6000 fittings.
